New Ideas Team

<img:stuff/writersco_divider2.jpg>

Now we have members! Yeah!
Here are our members:
[Metal Tsubasa]
[~*Lonely Wanderer*~]
[SleepingDragon]

This is where we as a team will put deadlines, brainstorming and anything else we will need.

Ideas for contests:

Weekly (or Monthly) One Day Showdown

The idea here is that once a week (or month) a new theme is posted and entrants have 24 hours to submit a story. This could be helpful in preparing aspiring writers to deal with short deadlines.

But with so few members on writersco... how are we sure anyone will even submit? It takes weeks to get a good bunch of people to get into a contest.-[Metal Tsubasa]

I guess you can never be sure, but if it's announced early and people talk about it in blogs and tell their friends, etc, that might help. To me it doesn't matter if it gets 2 entries or 15. If one person does the exercise, then it helped that one person. -[SleepingDragon]

That makes sence, I just hate it when a contest is put to waste. I suppose then, it could work, it sounds good. -[Metal Tsubasa]

lyrical prose - (wiki under construction)

A contest wherein each participant would base a short story on a song of their own chosing

Other stuff:

1. We've been asked by [Emily] to brainstorm ways to promote forum 15 <joinforum:15:join> (WC Contests) Right now it has a link on the mainpage with no explanation. It's not part of the regular listing when you click on forums.

Update: A new WC Contests forum has been created now in the regular listings. Thanks to [Font] and [Hedda] for the help with that!

2006-02-06 [~*Lonely Wanderer*~]: I still do not understand and probably never will, wiki's are so much easier for me (laughs) ^__^

2006-02-06 [Metal Tsubasa]: Forums-shmorums, I can't get the hang of 'em either

2006-02-06 [~*Lonely Wanderer*~]: ^__^ I knew there was another like me who didt get them ^__^

2006-02-07 [Paz]: I like your idea for a weekly/monthly contest but seeing as there are very few members here right now it would be best if it was a monthly affair not weekly one (although you can go either way in this case). Also, not many members will see it if it has a 24 hour deadline and what if they log on 2 hours before the time is up? :) I like the idea of a contest that focuses more on reaching a deadline rather than giving a few weeks for a member to post something on their own time.

2006-02-07 [Paz]: May I suggest maybe a warning period before the contest really begins so members are alerted and know to start preparing, even if it is only a day or so before the essential 24 hour deadline begins?

2006-02-07 [~*Lonely Wanderer*~]: Not bad I like that

2006-02-07 [SleepingDragon]: Yea the wiki for sign-ups could be up like all the time with info as to when the theme and criteria are to be posted...or something like that. By the way, I thought [~*Lonely Wanderer*~]'s idea was good too, the valentines theme.

2006-02-07 [Metal Tsubasa]: Yeah, except we're getting closer and closer to valentines day. Personaly, I'd like to do somethin anit-valentines for it. We always have these mushy contests, but in all honesty, I think valentines day was made to laugh at those who are alone. Can't we try something a little out of the ordinary?

2006-02-07 [Paz]: Also, seeing as Valentines Day is almost here there really wouldn't be a point because it takes awhile to evaluate and choose a winner. Plus, Elftown already has its' own contests that have to do with valentines day. We could try a Saint Patricks Day theme? :P

2006-02-08 [~*Lonely Wanderer*~]: yeah i agree i am one of those alone people so *laughs* yeah i like that St. Patties day theme too but yeah i dont think we should have one because its way too close

2006-02-08 [Metal Tsubasa]: Okay, so we've agreed on no v-day contest then?

2006-02-08 [SleepingDragon]: cool with me

2006-02-08 [SleepingDragon]: speaking of contests...and forums...we've been asked to brainstorm ways to promote forum 15 <joinforum:15:join> (WC Contests) See details on the wiki. This might be a good time for we that shy away from forums to take the time to work them out. Maybe get some discussion going there and see what people might want to see in contests?

2006-02-08 [~*Lonely Wanderer*~]: yup no contest i'll try it.... *becomes worried*

2006-02-09 [Metal Tsubasa]: How are we supposed to do that?

2006-02-09 [SleepingDragon]: lol, that was my reaction too

2006-02-09 [~*Lonely Wanderer*~]: o.O?

2006-02-09 [Paz]: People would like to see exciting contests. So far from what I've seen there are contests Labeled 'A Writing Contest' or 'Poem Contest'. Some other contests have cool names but when you go to the page they don't seem very interesting :) The best way to promote the contest forum is by promoting interesting contests then the forum becomes more interesting.

2006-02-09 [Metal Tsubasa]: Well then what we really need is to come up with an interesting contest... right?

2006-02-09 [~*Lonely Wanderer*~]: Sounds about right

2006-02-10 [Metal Tsubasa]: Well, if it comes to making something sound interesting... I can certainly do so.
